Baku - APA-Economics. U.S. Internet advertising revenue soared 15 percent to hit a record 26 billion U.S. dollars in 2010, according to figures released Wednesday, APA reports quoting Associated Press.

The new figures released by the Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers also reported record online ad revenue increases in the fourth quarter of 2010, up 19 percent to 7.5 billion dollars.

The most popular ad format was search, which represented 46 percent, or 12 billion dollars, of the year’s total revenue. Display-related ads accounted for 38 percent, or 9.9 billion dollars, of 2010 ad revenue. That category includes banner ads, digital video ads and sponsorships. The third-largest Internet ad category is classifieds, which accounted for 2.6 billion dollars, or 10 percent of 2010 revenue. The fastest growing form of advertising in 2010 was sponsorships, which soared 88 percent to 718 million dollars.

"More time spent online, especially with increases in digital video and social media, has certainly helped to fuel the continued growth," David Silverman, PwC assurance partner, said in a statement.
