The smuggling of a large consignment of drugs from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Azerbaijan was prevented due to the vigilance of the border guard in the"Goytepe" border detachment of the Border Troops of the State Border Service (SBS) on December 29, at around 02:00 a.m and 2:30 p.m. in the service territory of the border outposts near the village of Dashkend, APA reports citing the press service of the SBS.
According to the report, the border violators who ignored the legal requirements of the border guard launched fire in both cases and threatened the lives of the border guards. In accordance with the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan, "On the State Border," the border guard used a weapon for precautionary purposes. The border violators managed to escape back to the territory of Iran by throwing away the cargo they had with them.
As a result of the operation-search measures carried out in both directions, a total weight of 170 kilograms and 106 grams of narcotics (20 kg 158 grams of heroin, 142 kg 131 grams of marijuana, 4 kg 792 grams of methamphetamine, 3 kg 025 grams of opium and 81228 pieces of methadone M-40 pills) were discovered and seized.
The meeting was carried out with representatives of border security agencies of Iran Islamic Republic, and information exchange was made in regard to armed incidents that occurred.
Operative-investigative measures are underway on both facts.
