"Operational-search measures on a criminal case regarding Sumgait events that occurred in 1988 are continued," said Head of Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office Nemat Avazov, APA reports.
He noted that there was enough evidence on the organization of the events by the 'Krunk" organization, established in Nagorno-Karabakh, and members of the Karabakh Committee, established in Armenia: "At the same time, the existence of employees of the USSR State Security Committee there has been determined by us. There are proofs of Eduard Grigoryan's (1959) being the main figure of the crime and an organizer of the events. A criminal case was launched on him by us under intentional homicide, terrorism, creating hostility on national grounds articles and he was put on a wanted list. Furthermore, the participation of Valery Vaskanyan and others in the organization and perpetuation of the events have been determined. Operational-search instructions on the criminal case are still implemented."
