The appeal against the decision to extend the arrest of billionaire separatist Ruben Vardanyan has not been satisfied, APA reports citing Azerbaijan's State Security Service.

As previously reported, the arrest period for Ruben Vardanyan was extended by the Sabail District Court of Baku for 4 months.

Ruben Vardanyan's lawyer filed an appeal against the court's decision.

At a meeting in the Baku Court of Appeal, the court's decision was read out. Based on the decision, the appeal was not satisfied; the decision of the court of first instance to extend Vardanyan’s arrest remains in force.

Let us recall that reasonable suspicions were identified that Ruben Vardanyan had committed criminal acts under Articles 214-1 (financing terrorism), 279.3 (participation in the creation and activities of armed formations or groups not provided for by law), and 318.1 (illegal crossing of the state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan) of the Criminal Code.

The BBC recently published an extensive investigation exposing the exploits of Ruben Vardanyan.
