“Although the percentage of especially grave crimes recorded in 2023 remained stable in comparison with the indicators of 2022, the percentage of grave and moderate grave crimes decreased, while the percentage of crimes that did not pose a great public threat increased,” said Kamran Aliyev, the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan at the board meeting held at the Prosecutor General's Office, dedicated to discussing the state of work done by the prosecutor's office in 2023 in the field of combating crime, investigative work, prosecutorial control, and upcoming tasks, APA reports.
Mr. Aliyev also added that in 2023, 36,811 crimes were registered in Azerbaijan, and 87.8 percent of those crimes were solved. In total, 21,104 criminal cases were investigated in Azerbaijan, and 1,350 of them were investigated in Azerbaijan’s prosecutor's offices.
During 2023, preliminary investigations of 902 criminal cases, in total 16,146 criminal cases jointly with other investigative bodies were completed and sent to the courts for consideration by prosecutor's offices.
It was noted that 25,006 people committed crimes last year. 178 intentional homicides occurred in the country.
