An arrest warrant was issued for gang members who were detained a few days ago for transporting a large amount of drugs from Iran through the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, says a joint statement by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan and State Border Service, APA reports.
According to the statement, as a result of the operational-search and investigation measures jointly conducted by the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State Border Service, citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran were prevented from violating the guarded state border of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Caspian Sea and smuggling a particularly large amount of narcotics into the country.
On June 24, at around 23:00 in the Caspian Sea, citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Nuri Abruntan (born in 1983), Bahman Kaseb (born in 1984), and Aunag Abdulrahim (wounded), who attempted to escape by throwing the narcotic substances they had brought with them into the water, were captured during a pursuit operation.
In the criminal case initiated by the Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office on 27.06.2024, Bahman Kaseb and Nuri Abruntan were charged under Articles 206.3.2, 234.4-1, and 318.2 of the Criminal Code, and the Azerbaijani citizens Elkhan Aliyev (born in 1982) and Esmira Mammadova (born in 1976) were charged as accused persons under Articles 32.5, 206.3.2, and 234.4-1 of the Criminal Code. Based on the investigator's request and the prosecutor's submission overseeing the preliminary investigation, the Binagadi District Court of Baku chose detention as a preventive measure for them on the same date.
Necessary investigative and operational-search measures are ongoing in order to reveal other participants of the crime.
Additional information will be provided to the public on the progress and outcome of the preliminary investigation.
