As a result of a special operation carried out jointly by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan and the State Border Service, members of another group who tried to smuggle a large number of narcotics into Azerbaijan have been detained, APA reports.
A total of 83 kilograms of narcotics (69 kilograms of marijuana, 14 kilograms of opium and methamphetamine) were found during inspection of the package in their hands.
Detainee said that they took the narcotics from a previously hidden place in Azerbaijan's Fuzuli district through a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran named "Yashar" for the purpose of sale.
With this, one of the channels that smuggle drugs from Iran to Azerbaijan was dealt a strong blow.
A criminal case has been initiated under the relevant article of the Criminal Code in regard of this fact, preventive measures have been taken against both persons, and operational measures are being continued.
