Georgian police detain Azerbaijanis on Red Bridge

APA’s Georgia bureau reports that there are Azerbaijanis among them. Consul of Azerbaijani embassy in Georgia Farhad Mammadov confirmed the report to APA. Consul said deputy police chief of Kvemo-Kartli Zurab Rukhadze told them that one Azerbaijani Farman Narimanov had been detained in Red Bridge checkpoint.
“According to the embassy, Georgian frontier guards detained five Azerbaijanis. They are Gabil Novruzaliyev, Etibar Turabov, Mehdi Nabiyev, Mahammad Novruzov and Farman Narimanov. They are accused of giving bribe to the police.
Our fellow countrymen say that they did not give bribes, there was money inside their passports. We will meet with the leadership of Georgian Foreign Ministry and Kvemo Kartli police. The relatives of the detained Azerbaijani citizens will be informed about the results. According to Georgian legislation, each of these persons is fined 10,000 GEL. They can be released if the fine is paid. Investigations are underway. As far as we know, totally 20-25 people have been detained,” he said.
