Baku-APA. Azerbaijani Ombudswoman Elmira Suleymanova was awarded “Officer†title of Order of the Red Cross by Polish President Lech Kaczynski for her merits in strengthening international cooperation, establishment of friendly relations between Poland and Azerbaijan, successes in protection of human rights. Press Service of the Ombudsman’s Office told APA.
The prize was presented to her during solemn event held within the framework of international conference on the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, Oświęcim, Poland. Nikiforos Diamandouros, European Ombudsman, Thomas Hammarberg, Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as Lithuanian, Georgian, Ukrainian, French and Israeli Ombudsmen were also awarded.
