Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. “Father’s assumption that captured Azerbaijani soldier Rafig Hasanov is not alive is not true,” secretary of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons Shahin Sayilov told APA. He said that the commission was taking all the necessary steps for releasing Rafig Hasanov.
“Now we are expecting the results of these appeals. The appeals will continue until the captive is released,” he said.
Sayilov said that the commission contacted the Armenian side through Azerbaijani representation of the International Commission of the Red Cross (ICRC).
“Azerbaijani representation of the ICRC contacts Armenian representation and delivers our message to them,” he said.
The secretary of the commission said they would have talks with the Armenian side concerning Rafig Hasanov that day.
“We do not know beforehand how the results of the meeting will be,” he said.
Spokesperson of Azerbaijani representation of ICRC Gulnaz Guliyeva also told APA that Rahman Hasanov’s assumption that his son is not alive is groundless.
“ICRC representatives last visited Rafig Hasanov on November 21. If he is visited, then he is alive. It does not depend on us to offer opportunities for visiting Rafig Hasanov every week. We appeal to Armenian government agencies. Our representatives visit him, when they create conditions,” she said.
As regards the appeal of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons to the ICRC Guliyeva said they were having talks with the government agencies. The results of the talks are not publicized, as they are confidential.
The captured soldier’s father Rahman Hasanov said he doubted that his son was alive.
Soldier of Azerbaijani Army, Hasanov Rafig Rahman, 19, was captured by Armenian servicemen on the line of contact in Gazakh region on October 8 this year.
