Cargo ships of Azerbaijan and Ukraine collide in Dardanelles

APA reports that Azerbaijani cargo ship Emerald 1 with capacity of 3430 tones of water, which was built in 1991 and is now sailing under the flag of Panama, collided with Ukrainian Danapris-2. No casualties are reported. The hull of the ship was seriously damaged in the collision. Azerbaijani ship was reportedly sailing towards Eysk port and Ukrainian ship from Rostov towards Ravenna. The causes of the collision are not known. There were 8 crew members on board the Azerbaijani ship and 12 crew members on board the Ukrainian ship. Turkish Maritime Administration said the ships were not at risk of sinking, both dropped anchor in the east and north-east of Bozcaada. Sea Accident Research Commission will interrogate the captains of the ships to investigate the accident. The Administration said those guilty in the accident would be punished.
Azerbaijan State Maritime Administration told APA that Azerbaijan-owned cargo ship Emerald-1 had been lent to Panama’s SIO Shipping Company.
