Natural disaster occurs in Azerbaijan’s Astara region

APA’s local bureau reports that rain followed by a strong wind began in Astara at 17.00 on November 28. Strong wind and heavy rain resulted in landslip in 10 villages in Siyeku 30km from the center of the region. The level of water rose by 7-8 meters, some bridges were destroyed and contact with the center of the region was cut off. Lovair substation was damaged and 35kw electric post burnt. As a result of it Siyeku, Kubos, Vili, Vago and other villages have been receiving electricity with interruptions since morning November 29.

No casualties were reported, but the natural disaster caused serious damage to the individual farms and several houses.

Special commission has been set up under the leadership of first deputy head of Astara region executive power, chairman of the region’s Emergencies Commission Mezaim Huseynov. Measures are being taken to remove the consequences of the natural disaster.
