Jan Klaus: “Justice and Law Council in Azerbaijan meets requirements of the Council of Europe”

Baku. Hafiz Heydarov–APA. “Justice and Law Council in Azerbaijan was established in accordance with requirements of the Council of Europe”, Jan Klaus, official of the department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Council of Europe, told APA during his visit to Baku. Klaus said one of the Council of Europe requirements was establishing of independent Justice and Law Council in the country and involving the judges in its activity. “From this perspective I can say that our requirements were met in Azerbaijan in accordance with the standards”.
Touching upon the law reforms in Azerbaijan, the European official said he highly appreciated the selection of judges through the competition. “I was informed that 102 judges were selected in Azerbaijan by the tests in 2008. I hope this process will be gradually improved”.
