Representatives of Ombudsman’s Office visit Gobustan jail

Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. Representatives of Ombudsman’s Office have today visited Gobustan jail of Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Service, press service of Ombudsman’s Office told APA. 634 people are serving imprisonment in Gobustan jail. 235 of them are lifers.

Representatives of Ombudsman’s Office visited sanitary service, punishment cell, canteen, meeting rooms and cells. They gave recommendations to the jail administration concerning the issues raised by life-term prisoners Zakir Nasirov, Vagif Mikayilov, Shakir Rzakhanov, Arzu Orujov, Kamran Muslumov. The monitoring also found out a number of improvements in connection with the detention conditions.

The cells of life-term prisoners have been supplied with over 150 TV sets at the state expenditure, the prisoners can watch TV four hours a day. Before, lifers had been allowed to talk over the phone 10 minutes six times a year. Now they are allowed to talk over the phone for 15 minutes twice a month. Lifers are allowed to have short-term meetings with their relatives six times a year and long-term meetings twice a year.
