Amnesty International makes statement on release of Azerbaijanis arrested in Iran

Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. Amnesty International made a statement on release of Azerbaijani Human Rights defenders, journalists, writers and poets arrested in Iran on September 10 and earlier. World Azerbaijanis’ Congress told APA that the statement demands release of the Azerbaijanis arrested by Iranian intelligence bodies.
“Journalist Alirza Sarrafi, writers Akbar Azad, Hasan Rashidi, poet, journalist Said Muganli, Human Rights defender Hasan Rahimi BAyat, teachers Huseyn Heydari, Abbas Naimi, member of Evrin circle Mehdi Naimi and poet Seyyad Mahammadian (Ovchu Goshachayli) were arrested on September 10. They are held in one-man cells in 209 section of Evin prison under pressure. The national activists have been reportedly arrested for planning to boycott the opening of schools in the new academic in Iran. Amnesty International considers them prisoners of conscience and demands Iranian government to release these Azerbaijanis,” the statement says.
The statement says that it was impossible to get information about 9 out of 20 arrested Azerbaijanis.
“Being an international human rights organization we condemn the actions of official Tehran and express our protest to Iranian government,” the statement says.
