Border servicemen prevent tobacco smuggling from Iran to Azerbaijan

Baku. Mahbube Gasimbeyliâ€“APA. N border postâ€™s staff in Yardimli Region of Azerbaijan prevented large part of tobacco products smuggling from Iran to Azerbaijan, press service of the State Border Service told APA. An Azerbaijani citizen was detained with 4860 boxes Esse and 849 boxes Marlboro cigarettes as a trespasser, but other trespasser could escape. He was detained later as a result of operational searches by the border servicemen. Investigation Department of the State Border Service launched criminal case and is continuing the operational investigation.
Press service said as a result of comprehensive operational searches under the code name of â€œPoppy 2008â€ 2 ton and 350 kg poppies were confiscated from 0.5 hectares field in Garahasanli Village of Sharur Region on August 13. Drug plants were burned in Sharur regional police officers and local citizensâ€™ hearing.
