Prisoner stops hunger strike in jail #7

Baku. Mahbuba Gasimbayli – APA. Chief of Azerbaijani Committee against Torture Elchin Behbudov has visited jail #1 in Bayil. The committee chief told APA that he had met with a number of prisoners.

The human rights defender said Sabirabad resident Fegan Valiyev (faced charges under article 204 of the Criminal Code), Shamkir resident Akif Gulmammadov (faced charges under article 102.2 of the Criminal Code), Balaken resident Ibrahim Abdullayev (faced charges under article 120.1.2 (premeditated murder) of the Criminal Code) and Elvin Gasimov (faced charges under article 180.2.2 of the Criminal Code) told him that they had undergone torture in the police offices.

The committee chief said Emil Mammadov, son of editor-in-chief of Tolishi-sedo newspaper Novruzali Mammadov, who faced charges under article 234 of the Criminal Code, also said he had undergone torture in the police office. Behbudov said the prisoners did not complain of their detention conditions.

Elchin Behbudov also met with Elshan Pashayev, who had been going on hunger strike for a long time, in jail #7. The human rights defender said the prisoner had stopped the hunger strike that day.
