Baku. Mahbuba Gasimbayli – APA. Life-term prisoner Elchin Amiraslanov is going on hunger strike in Gobustan jail, the prisoner’s lawyer Aydin Nazarli told APA. The lawyer said he had met with Elchin Amiraslanov the day before, he had health problems because of hunger strike.
Aydin Nazarli said his client underwent tortures in the jail on August 16.
“Elchin Amiraslanov said 10-12 officers of the jail beat him and placed him in the punishment cell. He is still held in the punishment cell and signs of torture are observed on his body,†he said.
Aydin Nazarli said he would appeal to Prosecutor General’s Office and Justice Ministry.
Public Affairs Department of Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Service told APA that the reports that Elchin Amiraslanov had undergone torture were groundless. The department said the prisoner had been placed in the punishment cell because of his illegal acts. The department confirmed that Elchin Amiraslanov was going on hunger strike.
