Azerbaijani woman goes on hunger strike in Georgian jail

The strike began on June 6, APA quotes Georgian press. The sentenced women demand to cut term of prison, to ease punishment and to release them for their ages and health problems and to cancel punishment of pregnant women and mothers of children under 5. Azerbaijani woman, as well as Russian and Armenian women in jail demanded to meet with the Embassy officials of their countries in Tbilisi.
Spokesman for Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Georgia Elkhan Polukhov said Dashdamirova’s request was delivered to the Embassy by the Georgian Ombudsman Sozar Subari. The Embassy contacted with the Penitentiary Service of the Georgian Justice Ministry. “They told us the meeting would be possible in the second half of the day because of protest action in penitentiary”.
Reasons of Dashdamirova’s conviction have not been made public.
