Baku. Zaur Nurmammadov–APA. First fact of piracy has been identified in the Caspian Sea over the last years. Pirates attack the fishing and border guard boats, APA quotes Russian newspaper “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”. Two illegal barges attacked the border guard boat “Mars” in April only and in such a manner poachers acknowledged their piracy. Russian Federal Security Service investigators in Kalmykia and Astrakhan launched criminal cases on the fact of attempt on the life of law enforcement officers. Totally border guards faced with 7 such attacks in 2007-2008. Usually pirates shell on the boats to sink them. This year border guards have identified and demolished more than 70 retreats of pirates in the coasts of Astrakhan and Kalmykia. The newspaper said Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan coastal guards have started joint operations in the coastal waters since April 21. Border aviation was also involved in the operations to clean the 11.5 thousands miles square miles from the pirates. 41 illegal fishermen were arrested and hundreds kilograms of sturgeon were confiscated. The pirates also have losses. 21 pirate barges were confiscated in the past several months.
