Drug smuggling from Iran to Azerbaijan prevented

Officers of Head Department to Combat Narcotics started search in Jalilabad that day at 22.00. Several officers in VAZ-2107 approached a suspect with two bags in his hands and asked what is in the bag. The man tried to run away, but the policemen neutralized him. Just then the policemen were fired from two directions. The detainee tried to escape, but was prevented. After the response fire the drug dealers ran away towards the border. No one was wounded during the clash, but the criminals shot down the policemen’s car.
The detainee Iranian citizen, 31-year old Nasiri Shahruz Shukur said that he has opium and heroin in his package. A man called Kamil gave him the narcotics in Germi region of Iran. Shahruz also said that he was to give to narcotics to an unknown man. The policemen reviewed the site and found a gun in 100m. About 10m far from the gun they found opium and heroin in cellophane sacks. A great deal of cartridge cases was also found at the site. 5.80kg heroin and 17.65kg opium smuggled in the country by Shahruz Nasiri and two other Iranian citizens was confiscated and handed over to investigative bodies.
Criminal case has been launched on the fact, investigation is being carried out. /APA/
