Baku – APA. Turkish Foreign Ministry has commented on Armenian Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepyan’s statement about territorial claims against Turkey. APA reports that the Turkish Foreign Ministry met with anger Hovsepyan’s statements that borders between Turkey and Armenia were defined illegally and Turkey should return to Armenia the areas once inhabited by the Armenians. The Foreign Ministry's statement says: “Prosecutor General’s statements reflect the ideas dominated in Armenia regarding territorial integrity of the neighboring Turkey and Turkey-Armenia relations. This position is contrary to the commitments undertaken by Armenia before the international organizations, including the UN and OSCE. Everyone should know very well that no one has the right to demand land from Turkey.”
On July 5, addressing the conference on the so-called “Armenian genocide” in Yerevan, Hovsepyan said that the Republic of Armenia should get back its lost territories: “Victims of Armenian genocide should receive material compensation, churches and church lands should be returned to the Armenian Church, the Republic of Armenia should receive back the territories it lost. But all these claims should have perfect legal grounds. We have territorial disputes with both Azerbaijan and Turkey”. According to the prosecutor general, in order to solve these issues, it is necessary to work out a large package of claims with relevant legal grounds and introduce it before the authorities of Armenia with the view of submitting it to the principal judicial organ of the United Nations (UN).
