Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Sevinj Hasanova said at the meeting chaired by the chairman of the Committee Hadi Rajabli that in 2014, subsistence minimum is offered at AZN 125, need criterion – at AZN 100.

She noted that extreme poverty was exceeded in Azerbaijan by 10 times. She said that Azerbaijan applies concept of absolute poverty: “European countries, the US and Canada apply concept of relative poverty and this makes median part of country’s income. Poverty level in Azerbaijan makes 5.3% via this method.”

She noted that Azerbaijan also will improve the method of poverty measurement and multidimensional poverty wil be caculated.

Deputy Chairman of Social Policy Committee Musa Guliyev noted that current AZN 125-subsistence minimum does not reflect the reality.

As an answer to that, S. Hasanova noted that she hopes the subsistence minimum for per family in Azerbaijan will reach $1,000.

Chairman of Committee H. Rajabli stressed that the subsistence minimum in the country doubled compared to 2007: “The subsistence minimum in 2007 was AZN 64. If we take into account that the prices in market did not rise, such growth of subsistence minimum accords to the economy”.

At the end of the discussions, the committee recommended all three projects to the plenary meeting.
