Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the country would not participate in a possible multinational force in Ukraine, despite the proposal of the European Union (EU), instead it would focus on protecting the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO), APA reports, citing Izvestia.
"This is our stand-alone solution. Poland decides for itself where it sends soldiers and where it does not send them. It doesn't come from our lack of determination or lack of courage. Poland has another assignment. We must defend the eastern flank of NATO," Tusk said during a speech broadcast on the YouTube channel of the Prime Minister's office.
Following the talks of the EU leaders in Berlin, a statement was adopted that includes proposals to send multinational forces to Ukrainian territory and maintain the strength of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) at least 800,000 people. However, Poland, despite these initiatives, decided not to participate in the creation of such a contingent.
Tusk noted that Poland's decision was due to the protection of the country's interests, primarily on the eastern flank of NATO. At the same time, he pointed out that Poland can become a key logistics hub for multinational forces by providing infrastructure, including airports and ports, as well as its own logistics.
He also added that Russia has not yet agreed to the presence of foreign troops on the territory of Ukraine.
"So far, there is not a single signal from Moscow that Russia would agree to the presence of British, French, <...>..> American troops as a guarantee of security," Tusk added.
