US President Donald Trump said he asked for London Mayor Sadiq Khan to be excluded from a state banquet at Windsor Castle during his UK visit this week, the latest escalation in a feud dating back to 2015, APA reports.

“I didn’t want him there. I asked that he not be there,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Thursday as he returned to Washington. “I think the mayor of London Khan is among the worst mayors in the world.”

The BBC reported that Khan “did not seek or expect” an invitation to the banquet hosted by King Charles.

On Tuesday, Khan had written in an op-ed in The Guardian that “something in our country changed at the weekend,” following large anti-immigration protests in London. He accused Trump of “fanning the flames” of far-right politics, saying: “President Donald Trump and his coterie have perhaps done the most to fan the flames of divisive, far-right politics around the world in recent years.”

Trump and Khan have a running feud dating back to 2015, when Trump began saying Muslims should be banned from traveling to the US
