"Failure to condemn violence is support for the perpetrators. This is a regrettable approach of Brussels," said Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, APA's local bureau reports.

According to him, even though a month has passed since the failed coup in Georgia and the attempted storming of the Presidential Palace, European commissioners, including Kos and Kallas, refuse to condemn it.

"Unfortunately, expectations of a fair approach from Brussels are gradually decreasing. It is regrettable that values have been declining in Brussels recently. Georgia is being viewed only from the perspective of narrow political and geopolitical goals. We see that people in leading positions in Brussels approach Georgia with a Soviet mentality," Papuashvili said.

The speaker noted that the European Union (EU) should condemn the riots that took place in Tbilisi on October 4 before saying anything about Georgia:

“Georgia barely escaped the riots, and no one knows what the consequences would have been if they had not been prevented in time. Therefore, they should be the first to condemn the violence and distance themselves from it.”

Note that the EU’s enlargement report on Georgia will be published tomorrow. The document will describe in detail the events that have taken place in Georgia over the past year and how they relate to the country’s efforts to join the EU.
