Serbian Interior Ministry reports attack on protesters in central Belgrade

The Serbian Ministry of the Interior reported an attack by participants in an unauthorized gathering on citizens attending an officially announced rally in central Belgrade, APA reports.

The incident occurred on the evening of November 2 near the parliament building.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, "an organized group of participants in an unauthorized gathering attacked citizens attending a registered public event, throwing various objects and fireworks at them." The attack "set fire to one of the tents where people were located at the time, seriously endangering their safety and creating a real risk of serious consequences, including injury and death."

Law enforcement officers quickly intervened and prevented further escalation of violence. According to the ministry, one police officer sustained a shin injury as a result of the fireworks and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

"We call on all citizens to refrain from violence, obey the law, and not participate in unauthorized gatherings that threaten the lives and safety of others and public property," the department stated.
