At midnight on September 12, Poland fully closed its border crossing with Belarus. This decision, as explained during a briefing in Terespol by the Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, Marcin Kierwiński, is tied to the start of the Russian-Belarusian military exercises Zapad-2025, APA reports, citing mezha.net.
The flow of traffic will be restored only when clear security guarantees for citizens appear. The minister noted that the government is weighing the economic aspects for business, but stressed that the border closure was adopted purely for security reasons. The restrictions are not considered temporary, solely for the period of the exercises; they will be reviewed regularly depending on how events unfold.
The press service of the Polish Ministry of the Interior confirmed that border guards and security services are on site, and the government maintains close contacts with NATO and EU allies.
