Georgian Azerbaijanis want to remove the subject "Language of Ethnic Minorities" from the educational program and include the subject "Azerbaijani Language and Literature" instead, APA's local bureau reports.
A petition addressed to the Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, Givi Mikanadze, has been posted on the "change.org" platform in this regard.
The author of the petition, the head of the "Maarif" organization Aygul Isayeva, said that replacing the name of the subject "Azerbaijani Language and Literature" with the term "language of ethnic minorities" in the educational program compiled by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia is unacceptable and this contradicts the educational rights of Azerbaijanis who are citizens of Georgia.
According to her, just as "Georgian Language and Literature" is written in the educational program, in the schedule reflecting class hours, and in the electronic journal, it would be logical and expedient to indicate the name of the subject related to the native language and literature of Azerbaijanis as "Azerbaijani Language and Literature".
Once the required number of signatures is collected, the petition will be submitted to the Ministry of Science, Education, and Youth of Georgia.
