The audacious daylight robbery of $102 million worth of historic jewels at the Louvre Museum in Paris last month was carried out not by organized crime rings, but by petty criminals, APA reports, citing Reuters.

Paris prosecutor Lor Becqua made the announcement on Sunday.

Two weeks ago, on a Sunday morning, two men parked a freight elevator in front of the Louvre, rode it to the second floor, broke a window, cut open the display cases with a drill, and after an operation that lasted less than seven minutes, escaped on two motorcycles.

Three of the four suspects have already been arrested. The jewelry has not yet been recovered. However, the prosecutor said their profiles resemble petty criminals from the poor northern suburbs of Paris, not professional criminals like those in the movie "Oceans Eleven."

"This is not an everyday crime, but this incident is not linked to the highest level of organized crime," the Paris prosecutor said.

The suspects are local people.

He added that the profiles of the four people arrested so far do not fit professional criminal networks capable of carrying out complex operations.
