According to the tests conducted in Georgia, the Nipah virus has not been detected, said the medical director of the Iashvili Central Children's Hospital of Georgia, Professor Ivane Chkhaidze, APA's local bureau reports.

He noted that he doubts the deadly virus spreading in India will become a problem for Georgia.

“The main reservoir for the Nipah virus is fruit bats. This species of bat is not found in Georgia. Studies have been conducted on other bat species, and no Nipah virus has been detected in them,” Chkhaidze added.

The director emphasized that there is no need for Georgia or any other country to introduce special monitoring of passengers arriving from India.
