Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that Russia will take control of Ukraine’s Donetsk region either through negotiations or on the battlefield, CBS News reported, citing a senior US official, APA reports.
According to the report, the initial position of the US delegation participating in the talks in Geneva was based on the conclusion that Putin's plan is close to reality.
Although the US administration refused to give a direct assessment of the situation in Donbas, the American official said that the current trajectory of the fighting indicates that Russia may seize control of Donetsk.
The official noted that Russia's advance on the eastern front in the direction of Pokrovsk indicates that the defense prospects for Kyiv are not good.
