British Prime Minister Andy Burnham plans to urge US President Donald Trump to end the war with Iran as soon as possible during their meeting on September 22, The Guardian reports.
The newspaper cited Burnham’s remarks to British journalists during his visit to New York.
“Of course, we want the conflict to end as soon as possible, and we are ready to contribute to this,” Burnham said when asked whether he would raise the Iran issue during talks with Trump.
According to The Guardian’s sources within the British government, Burnham plans to adopt a less confrontational approach to developing relations with the US president while pursuing a policy distinct from that of the previous government.
The newspaper added that Burnham intends to discuss the situation in the Middle East, the conflict in Ukraine and the development of artificial intelligence during meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The prime minister is expected to focus primarily on artificial intelligence in his address to the General Assembly.
