A petition regarding the banning of three opposition parties in Georgia has been submitted to the Constitutional Court, said Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, at a briefing, APA’s local bureau reports.

According to him, the Constitutional Court must make a decision on the petition within 9 months in accordance with the legislation.

“Accordingly, the decision should be made in July of next year. The Constitutional Court will determine when and how the process will take place. We will wait to be summoned to the court,” Papuashvili said.

Note that the authors of the constitutional petition are the ruling “Georgian Dream,” “European Socialists,” and “People’s Power” parties.

The petition demands that the United National Movement party founded by former President Mikheil Saakashvili, the “For Changes” coalition, and the “Lelo – Strong Georgia” party be declared incompatible with the Constitution of Georgia.

At the recent session of the Parliament of Georgia’s Legal Affairs Committee, the authenticity of the signatures of 88 MPs on the petition was confirmed.
