Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa met on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Italian PM said in an X post, APA reports.
“During the meeting, I emphasized our support for the reconstruction of a sovereign and stable Syria through investments by Italian companies in areas of mutual interest. I emphasized the importance of protecting all components of society in Syria. It is appropriate to start with the protection of minorities, such as Christians in particular. I took this opportunity to draw attention to the importance of continuing efforts to ensure the voluntary return of Syrian refugees to their countries,” the post reads.
