A Ukrainian citizen, Sergey K., accused of blowing up the Nord Stream gas pipeline, has been arrested, APA reports, citing RBC.
The decision was issued by the Federal Court of Justice of Germany.
According to prosecutors, the individual allegedly led a sabotage group that dived to the bottom of the Baltic Sea on September 26, 2022, and blew up the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines.
The defendant, however, claims that he was serving in the Ukrainian military at that time.
It is noted that Sergey K. was detained in Italy and extradited to Germany.
For reference, the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines transport Russian gas to Germany.
