German Ambassador Peter Fischer did not accept an invitation to a meeting with ambassadors accredited to the country at the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) today, APA's local bureau reports.
At the meeting held at the MFA, the diplomats were provided with detailed information about the local elections held in Georgia on October 4, as well as the events that took place in Tbilisi on that day and the investigative measures taken.
Note that diplomatic tension has been prevailing between Georgia and Germany for a long time. P. Fischer was summoned to the Georgian MFA on September 24. The Georgian side expressed concern about the diplomat's attempts to promote a radical agenda in the country.
On October 2, the Georgian Chargé d'Affaires ad interim was summoned to the German MFA. The Georgian diplomat was informed that the Georgian authorities' unfounded accusations and aggressive rhetoric against the German ambassador in Tbilisi were unacceptable and should be stopped.
