The Georgian parliament has adopted a bill on the final - third reading, which envisages holding voting in all elections within the state borders, APA's local bureau reports.

79 MPs supported the amendments to the Election Code, while 11 voted against.

From now on, parliamentary elections in Georgia, like municipal elections, will be held only within the country. Georgian citizens will be able to exercise their right to vote during plebiscites and referendums, in addition to parliamentary elections, only within the state borders.

Another main amendment is that parties will only have the right to nominate their members in parliamentary and municipal elections. Only initiative groups will be able to nominate a person who is not a party member.

It should be noted that until now, polling stations were also established in foreign countries during parliamentary elections in Georgia. The next parliamentary elections in the neighboring country are scheduled for October 2028.

Direct presidential elections in Georgia were last held in 2018. After the country's transition to a parliamentary form of government, the head of state is elected by an Electoral College of 300 people. Incumbent President Mikheil Kavelashvili was elected to the post of head of state for the next five years in December last year in this way.
