“Brussels’ statements on Georgia’s compliance with sanctions against Russia resemble bipolar disorder,” APA’s local bureau reports citing Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

Speaking at a briefing, Papuashvili said that while the European Union praises Tbilisi for adhering to the sanctions, it simultaneously funds NGOs that spread disinformation claiming Georgia is being used to evade those sanctions.

“Georgia is thanked by Brussels for complying with sanctions. So why is Brussels funding disinformation against Georgia? This does not show double standards — it shows bipolar disorder in Brussels,” Papuashvili stated.

Note that David O’Sullivan, the EU’s Special Envoy for Sanctions, sent a letter yesterday to Georgia’s Foreign Minister, expressing gratitude for the steps taken to prevent the circumvention of EU sanctions against Russia and for Georgia’s high-level commitment to compliance.
