“It is not serious to talk about Georgia allegedly losing its transit function," Maka Bochorishvili, Georgian Foreign Minister said in an interview with the Imedi TV channel.
According to her, the countries of the region understand Georgia’s role and value very well, and any deliberate attempt to unnecessarily stir up competition is groundless.
The minister noted that when speaking about connectivity, it is impossible not to attach importance to Georgia considering its geographical location.
“It is difficult for Georgia to fulfill this function without neighboring countries. Therefore, first of all, we must further develop cooperation with the countries of the region,” Bochorishvili added.
The foreign minister emphasized that dynamic cooperation with neighboring and Central Asian countries will benefit Georgia and, in a certain sense, will serve as a guarantee of stability for the country:
“No one needs unrest and instability in our region today. At the current stage, this small region is of vital importance. We must use this properly, which is why we are maintaining stability in Georgia.”
