A plebiscite (public opinion poll) is being proposed in Georgia on the country’s accession to the European Union and NATO, APA’s local bureau reports.
The initiative was put forward by the political movement Georgian Assembly.
Members of the organization have submitted the initiative to the Georgian government administration.
Leader of the Georgian Assembly Jondi Bagaturia stated that the decision on joining the European Union and NATO should be made by the Georgian people.
“We have seen what consequences Ukraine’s efforts to join NATO have led to. We have also witnessed the ‘gratitude’ of the European Union and NATO for Georgia’s loyalty and the sacrifices it has made over the past 35 years. Accordingly, it is the Georgian people who should decide whether or not they want to join the European Union and NATO,” he added.
