Georgia’s ongoing protests are being financed by foreign intelligence agencies in a manner similar to Ukraine’s Maidan in 2014, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said, APA reports.

Commenting on the situation amid continuing rallies in Tbilisi, Kobakhidze said: “All of this, as in Maidan, was funded by foreign intelligence agencies. These agencies financed the Maidan, and look what it brought for Ukraine – today the Ukrainian state has collapsed. After a revolution funded by foreign intelligence, Ukraine faced two wars. Of course, we cannot allow this scenario to be repeated in Georgia, and we do not have the resources for it.”

He added that the Georgian authorities are closely monitoring the protests and are ready to take necessary measures to maintain stability. Any attempts to destabilize the country will be countered within the law.

Kobakhidze also noted that in recent months there have been attempts by foreign entities to interfere in Georgia’s internal affairs.
