Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has invited the leaders of the seven member states of the European Union's Eastern flank to a summit to be held in Helsinki on December 16, APA reports, citing the Finnish government's Communications Department.

The summit will be dedicated to the security and defense capabilities of Europe, especially threats to the EU's eastern borders.

Among the leaders who will participate in the event will be Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal, Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, Romanian President Nikushor Dan and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda.

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said that the summit will provide an opportunity for in-depth discussion of security threats and, at the same time, countries in Eastern Europe will be able to further strengthen cooperation in the fields of defense and border management.

Among the invited leaders, the prime ministers and presidents of Hungary and Slovakia are not included, even though these countries are also members of the Eastern flank.
