Extremist parties to be banned in Georgia

A lawsuit is being prepared to declare extremist parties unconstitutional in Georgia, said the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, APA's local bureau reports.

According to him, the constitutional lawsuit will be drawn up on the basis of the report of the temporary investigative commission of the parliament.

"Legislative tools used in the fight against extremism in all countries should be used. Let me remind you that an extremist organization was recently liquidated in Germany. Parties are banned in various countries. A party was recently liquidated in Moldova. Democracy must protect itself from anti-democrats and enemies of democracy," the speaker said.

It should be noted that the United National Movement Party founded by former President Mikheil Saakashvili and the political unions around it are expected to be banned in Georgia. It was reported that the relevant lawsuit will be submitted to the country's Constitutional Court this month.
