“The European Commission plans to present a significant investment package for Greenland in the near future,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, APA reports.
The purpose of the investments is to strengthen relations between the European Union and the island.
“We must strengthen our security and defense ties with our partners in the region, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Norway, Iceland, and others. This has become a real geopolitical necessity for Greenland,” Ursula von der Leyen said.
The European Commission President emphasized that the European Union plans to expand cooperation on Greenland, including joint efforts with the United States. To this end, the European side will allocate funding for Arctic equipment, in particular for the purchase of a European-made icebreaker.
