EU to closely monitor reports of anti-corruption searches targeting Zelensky aide Yermak

The European Union has seen reports of searches conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) against the head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, and will “closely monitor” the situation, said European Commission representative Guillaume Mercier in a statement to “RBK-Ukraine”, APA reports.

Mercier noted that the EU has followed the reports of searches conducted at Yermak’s home.

“Our position is well known: any investigations show that anti-corruption bodies are operating and have permission to operate in Ukraine. The fight against corruption has been a key element of our enlargement package and this determines our common position on this issue,” he said.

The EU representative recalled that the fight against corruption is “fundamental” for Ukraine’s chances of joining the EU. This requires appropriate efforts to ensure its ability to fight this fight and uphold the rule of law.

“The Commission will continue to closely monitor the situation,” Mercier added.
