“The European Union integration process is based on democratic achievements, and the Georgian authorities are endangering this path with their actions,” said Anita Hipper, Lead European spokeswoman for Foreign Affairs and Security, at a briefing, APA's local bureau reports.
According to her, the EU has minimized political relations with Georgia due to the large-scale regression of democracy. She emphasized that all support is therefore directed to free media and civil society in Georgia.
The EU official also commented on the local elections in Georgia. Hipper said that the elections were held against the backdrop of intensive repression against the media, civil society, and the opposition.
