The European Union’s allocation of EUR 90 billion to Ukraine for the next two years is non-repayable and interest-free, said Ukraine’s Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko in a post on his Facebook page, APA reports.
“The European Council made an extremely important decision for Ukraine, approving the allocation of EUR 90 billion for the next two years,” Marchenko noted.
According to him, these funds are, in essence, non-repayable and interest-free for Ukraine. Repayment would only be possible after Russia compensates Ukraine for the damage caused by the war.
Marchenko also emphasized that the obtained funds will be directed to the needs of the state budget and the defense sector.
“It is important to continue working on the compensation loan — its implementation requires additional preparation. I thank our European partners for their determination and for understanding Ukraine’s needs,” the Ukrainian Finance Minister added.
