Before joining the European Union, Ukraine must fulfill all the conditions imposed on candidate countries, according to Petr Macinka, who took office as Czech Foreign Minister on Monday, APA reports.
"Regarding Ukraine's accession to the EU in 2027, I can't quite picture it at the moment. I've always known that a country can only be admitted to the EU if it meets certain conditions and goes through the accession process. These conditions shouldn't be relaxed or allow for any exceptions. That would be wrong, unfair," the ČTK news agency quoted the minister as saying.
Matsynka spoke in favor of assisting Kyiv in its EU accession process. "We can help Ukraine meet these conditions more quickly. This makes sense, but I see no reason why any conditions should be relaxed or lifted, or why any country should have any exceptions," the Foreign Minister noted.
According to Matzinke, as head of Czech diplomacy, he intends to do his best to facilitate a speedy end to the conflict in Ukraine.
