A Turkish court has accepted the indictment prepared in connection with corruption allegations against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, APA’s Türkiye bureau reports.

The court has accepted the indictment prepared against 407 suspects—105 of whom are under arrest—within the investigation known as the “İmamoğlu profit-driven criminal organization.”

The allegations claim that the state suffered a loss of 160 billion lira over a 10-year period and that loans taken for metro and Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ) projects were not used for their intended purposes.

Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was removed from his position as mayor of Istanbul, is listed in the indictment as the “leader of the organization.” Six other individuals are identified as members of the organization’s leadership.

The indictment seeks a prison sentence ranging from 828 years and 2 months to 2,352 years for İmamoğlu.
